Luis Cubilla was a former Uruguayan football player and later a coach. He was born on March 28, 1940, in Paysandú, Uruguay, and died on March 3, 2013, in Asuncion, Paraguay.
Cubilla had a successful career as a footballer, playing as a forward. He played for several clubs in Uruguay, Argentina, and Spain, including Peñarol, Barcelona, and River Plate. He was also a member of the Uruguayan national team, winning the Copa América in 1967 and participating in the 1962 and 1970 World Cups.
After his playing career ended, Cubilla became a coach. He coached several clubs in South America, including Peñarol, Olimpia, and Cerro Porteño. He was also the head coach of the Paraguayan national team from 1991 to 1993 and again from 2002 to 2003.
Cubilla was known for his tactical acumen and his ability to motivate his players. He was considered one of the most successful and respected coaches in South American football. In 2015, he was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.
